May 23, 2023:
Twenty-five technical officers are currently attending a three-day workshop on “Sheep and Honey Traceability System” in Belmopan, Cayo District.
The aim of the workshop is to train Ministry of Agriculture Extension Officers, technicians from the Belize Agriculture Health Authority (BAHA) and the Belize Livestock Producers’ Association (BLPA) in operating TRAZAR-AGRO, a traceability platform developed by OIRSA for sheep and honey.
A special presentation was done to sensitize the Dairy and Pig Council representatives on the importance of a traceability system.
The workshop comes through a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE), OIRSA, BLPA and the Taiwan ICDF Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project (Sheep Project Phase II).
Facilitating the training are consultants Mr. Ever Hernandez and Mr. Ever Ascencio from OIRSA’s headquarter, El Salvador. The workshop will include sessions on introduction to data operation, data analysis and practices of TRAZAR-AGRO.
The Governments of Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) along with OIRSA, BLPA and BAHA are committed to work together to support the Belizean farmers and to strengthen the sheep and goat industry within the country.
