On November 13, 2024, the Belize Livestock Producers’ Association (BLPA) convened a meeting with all livestock transporters to discuss and outline new preventative protocols aimed at controlling the spread of the New World Screwworm. These protocols, which are part of ongoing efforts to protect Belize’s livestock industry, will officially take effect on Monday, November 18, 2024.
During the meeting, key stakeholders reviewed the updated measures, including the required steps for early detection, reporting, and treatment, as well as the necessary precautions to prevent the spread across regions. Transporters were given a detailed overview of their roles in ensuring compliance with the new guidelines.
