(Cochliomyia hominivorax)

The New World Screwworm is a disease caused by the larvae of a fly that deposits its eggs in any open wound regardless of its size. Keep an eye out for any injuries or scratches caused by farm fences.
If you have animals with wounds, disinfect and treat them daily until they heal.
Pay special attention to the navels of newborn animals.
If you see wounds with worms, call the veterinarian and report it to BAHA at 824-4872 or text 670-7003.
