The Ministry of Economic Development, in partnership with the Belize Livestock Producers’ Association, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Food Security and Enterprise, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), conducted a national stakeholder engagement and validation workshop. Several farmers were also present to share their experiences. The session aimed to provide guidance on finalizing the concept note and developing a roadmap for a sustainable cattle industry in Belize.
The meeting three main goals: First, to create an enabling environment by developing policies, regulations, incentives, and sustainable financing options to support a climate-resilient, net-zero cattle industry, with a focus on investing in infrastructure, technology, and other supportive systems. Second, to implement climate-resilient, low-carbon practices by scaling the adoption of best practices in climate-resilient technologies, introducing high-quality adaptive breeds, and enhancing production management to promote sustainable cattle farming. Lastly, to integrate best management practices, including the use of Silvopastoral systems, Voisin pasture management, water conservation techniques, and advanced genetics, all aimed at improving cattle health, nutrition, and overall industry sustainability.
